Key Takeaways
- Some players encounter an issue in Destiny 2's Act 3 exotic mission where the weapon isn't rewarded upon completion.
- Based on feedback, Bungie issued a statement indicating players needed to make sure that all Act 1 and 2 quest steps were finished first.
- Unfortunately, players are reporting other issues with the mission, including an unbreakable boss shield and secret chests not counting towards the catalyst.
As part of the launch of Act 3, Destiny 2 launched one of the biggest exotic missions in the history of the franchise with Encore: Overture, though players have discovered a frustrating issue with it. Following the end of Solstice of Heroes, Destiny 2 kicked off the third and final act of Episode Echoes, bringing players one step closer to bringing down the Conductor.
As part of the Destiny 2 Weekly Reset for Act 3, Bungie released a brand new exotic mission called Encore: Overture. Described as one of the studio's most ambitious exotic missions ever made, players can earn the Choir of One auto rifle, which fires void rounds and uses special ammo. Intended to function similarly to the void darts from Vex Wyverns, Choir of One has two firing modes that fires slower heavy caliber rounds when aimed down the sights versus a more explosive round when hipfired at the cost of using more ammo. As excited as the community is to get their hands on this new weapon, some have discovered a frustrating restriction with the mission itself.

As players began diving into the newest Destiny 2 exotic mission, some discovered that the Chorus of One wasn't actually waiting for them at the end. As more and more reports started surfacing, the official Bungie Help account put out a statement, not only acknowledging the fact that some players were not receiving rewards at the end of the Encore: Overture mission, but offering a simple explanation as to why. For those not getting any rewards, Bungie indicated that players should have already completed all quest steps from Act 1 and 2 for the character they're using before launching the new exotic mission.
Destiny 2 Exotic Encore: Overture Mission Has More Issues
As of right now, it's not clear whether this is simply a bug or intended functionality. The mission itself is one of the first quests given to players at the start of the Act 3 storyline, so the issue is popping up for those who are not yet at that point in the narrative and are likely joining up with friends or various LFG websites. It's also unclear, at the moment, if Bungie intends to address this in any capacity, though many fans are disappointed that the studio wasn't more upfront and vocal about this restriction or, at least, locked it before players were able to jump in. Outside the reward problem, other players have noted that the mission does suffer from other bugs, including the final boss getting an infinite unbreakable shield, the mission not being available on the Fireteam Finder tool in Destiny 2, and secret chests that don't actually count towards the catalyst quest.
As of now, Bungie hasn't provided a timeline of possible fixes for at least the other issues players have pointed out, though it's likely they'll be a priority considering how popular the Chorus of One has already become within the community. Considering Destiny 2's rocket sidearms have become fan favorites already, there are many indicating that this new exotic auto rifle performs even better, which will only serve to put even bigger demands on running this mission.
